On Friday 22nd September 2017 Year 1 had the most amazing scarecrow’s wedding to launch our topic about scarecrows.
Your children looked fantastic; they all arrived at school dressed for a wedding. Thank you so much for your help with this.
The day started with an exciting story telling session, reading the complete story of the ‘Scarecrow’s Wedding’. Up until this point the children had only heard the first 2 pages. It must be fantastic book because they were certainly hooked after hearing only the first 2 pages!
The children then enjoyed a ’roundabout’ of activities which including cake decorating, a treasure hunt, drama and looking at their teacher’s wedding photographs.
The celebrations reached a crescendo with the marriage of Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay. Of course, like any good wedding, the ceremony was followed by some delicious food and drink, not forgetting some traditional line dancing too.
Your children were all brilliantly behaved and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the celebrations.
Our English and Science lessons will now be based around the story of the Scarecrow’s Wedding. I think you’ll agree that the children now have some wonderful memories to base their new learning on.
