Phonics and Reading

This week in Phonics we are focusing on the different phonemes our initial letter sounds can make. Sometimes we will need to sound out a word with the different pronunciations to be able to read the word correctly.

Work through the Powerpoint for each day and play Acorn Adventure or Cheeky Chimps on Phonics Play to practice reading these words and sorting them by which sound they make.

Listen to the story of 'The Very Busy Spider'. You might want to listen to it a few times to help you remember the story.

1. Have a go at sequencing the events in the story. Starting with what happened at the beginning, the order the animals spoke to the spider and what happened at the end. Use the template (see below) to support this - it can be printed or drawn out in your home learning book.

2. Talk through the questions (see below). If you can write down your answers that would be fab but talking through the story is equally as fab!

The author of this book is Eric Carle.

Do you know of any other books written by this author?

See if you can find his stories online. Read or listen to the stories. What do you notice about them? What is similar and different?
