Reading Traditional Tales

Read some traditional tales with, and to your child.

Try:

*Talking about the characters. Who are the good characters? Why? Who are the bad characters? Why?

* Explaining the meaning of unknown words or punctuation (such as " " and !)

*Exploring using expression when reading aloud.

*Encouraging your child to join in with repetitive parts of the story, such as "I'll huff and I'll puff and blow your house down" and "What big eyes you have!"

*Asking your child to recall/retell the story.

Play this game with an older brother/sister or grown up. Who can be the first to read their words and make it to the end of the game?
