Science stimulates a natural curiosity in young children about their world. We believe that it is important to enable children to actively learn by exploring their world, asking questions about their observations and understandings and attempt to find ways of proving whether their understandings and thoughts are correct. The curriculum is developed to ensure the skills they need to find answers is based around scientific knowledge, understanding and scientific vocabulary. We aim for children to enjoy using new scientific words within the correct context and to explain new discoveries in their own way.
As our children progress we seek to develop their ability to carry out their own independent enquiries and to become confident in expressing and explaining their own views and conclusions through fair testing. "Will the seeds grow if we plant them upside down?" "Does the first tree to lose its leaves in autumn get the leaves back first in Spring?"
