Gardening Club
Autumn Week 2: 05.10.26
Our second session at Gardening Club was a busy one! We have planted some Fatsia Japonica (Spider's Web) around our benches by the field, which will do really well in the shade. We also worked really hard on our flower garden. We buried some spring bulbs deep in the soil lying in wait, and topped them off with some fresh compost and winter bedding plants. We have pansies, violas and primroses to give us some colour through the darker months. Our arch has also been built (thank you Mrs Jerome for holding the ladder while I built it!) which will serve as the entrance to our garden, and we will eventually have some beautiful climbers on it as well. Please encourage your children to come look at the flowers as they grow, but remind them not to touch them, or climb on the tyres or beds.
Next session, our focus will be getting the vegetables in the soil!

Autumn Week 1: 21.09.26
Gardening Club is back with new and returning faces! It was great to see all the children really get stuck in and dirty today as we took out the plants which hadn't survived the summer sun and turn over the compost. A huge thank you to the adults who support me in running the club, Mrs Mulholland and Mrs Conlon. We have had a little move around too giving us two new areas: a flower garden outside the Year 1 classrooms, and a vegetable garden out by the playground. In our next session, we will be doing a lot of planting!

End of Year Message
We have been busy at gardening club the last month or so, doing all those odd little jobs in the summer to get the garden ready to be left for the 6 week holiday. As we have a classroom swap around next year in school, we have moved our base of operations up to the top of the playground with our greenhouse which was kindly donated by a parent.
The children have worked extremely hard this year and as a result we have won our Level 2 Gardening Club award from the Royal Horticultural Society. Each child received their own certificate, as well as a small herb plant to take home as a well done from us both. We will miss the Year 2's but wish them all the best of luck at the junior school! I also want to say a huge thank you to Mrs Mulholland, who has given up her time with me to help run the club for the past two years now.
We will be continuing Gardening Club next year and look forward to welcoming new and returning faces in the autumn term.

Week Beginning 11.05.26
This week we planted the rest of our herbs, including some mint, basil, sage, rosemary, and some large lavender plants too. We also used some hanging pots donated to plant some companion plants to help keep the slugs off our herbs and veg! We added some tomato plants from Mrs Atkins to our vegetable beds and gave everything a good water and tidy.
We will be working towards growing some summer flowers from seeds in our new greenhouse and will be on the look out for some ferns for our new shady planting benches at the top of the field too. Finally, we have made top-tip posters to help each class look after their new snake plant.
Week Beginning 27.04.26
This week we took up the last of our spring flowers and processed the bulbs ready to use for next year. We turned the soil and then began planting some new plants - in our white beds we have planted our first little herb garden with more to be added next session. We also planted some young sweet pea plants in the tyres to start growing as well as some courgette plants too. We have everything a good tidy and watering! We have also been donated some snake plants so these will be donated to each class. Thank you so much!
Week Beginning 13.04.26
This week we said goodbye to a lot of our lovely spring flowers. We pulled up those flowers which had snapped in the wind or where they had begun to wilt. We rescued the bulbs carefully from the soil and will keep these to reuse next year! We also did some sweeping and tidying. At the front of the school, we weeded our summer bulb bed and placed some bark chips on the top to help protect them and the soil.
We have also been kindly donated some tools, compost and a walk-in greenhouse by Jackson-Roy's family. Thank you so much for your kind donation, it will be a huge help with gardening club!
Week Beginning 23.03.26
This week we have been using the 'Growing to love tomatoes' pack donated to the school. Each child planted a tomato seed. They also took home their own pack of seeds, a sticker chart to track their plant's growth and some cells to grow them in. We also planted some carrot seeds, some more summer bulbs, some onion bulbs and finally some sweetcorn starters donated by Mrs Atkins from her allotment.

Gardening Club was busy this week planting some wild flower seeds at the front of the school, pulling up dead plants and doing lots of weeding and tidying!
