Learning for Life
At Marchwood C of E Infant School, we believe that every child is unique and should feel valued, respected, and celebrated for who they are. Inclusion and diversity is central to our vision and values; we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all children are encouraged to build positive relationships, demonstrate courage, and stand up for what is right. Our aim is to help our children grow into confident, resilient, and compassionate individuals who understand the importance of embracing and respecting each other’s differences.
We are dedicated to supporting our children’s development through a curriculum that teaches the fundamental British Values, encouraging them to make thoughtful choices, act with kindness, and collaborate in a way that celebrates diversity. We strive to expose our children to a variety of perspectives, helping them challenge their own beliefs, broaden their understanding, and develop critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Our goal is to nurture children who are co-operative, creative, imaginative, and curious learners; we want them to be brave and enterprising in their approach to challenges. We encourage them to be resilient, confident, and ambitious, ready to face the world with open minds. By fostering effective communication, self-awareness, and a sense of respect for one another, we aim to empower our children to become compassionate and active participants in a diverse global society.
Through our commitment to inclusivity, we help prepare our children to be understanding, open-minded citizens, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. To support this goal, we have signed up to the Hampshire Inclusion and Diversity Partnership, demonstrating our commitment to working with others to further promote a sense of belonging in our setting.
We are always reviewing our curriculum to ensure there are purposeful and explicit opportunities to learn about diversity. We want all children to see themselves as important, valued individuals who can be proud of their respective cultures and their differences.
We want our curriculum and the associated experiences and enrichment to actively promote and celebrate diversity. We want children to see themselves represented in the books we read, the countries we learn about, the cultures we explore and the influential figures we study.
We want to teach our children to be courageous advocates; to stand up for the injustice and inequality that exists in our world, and to create change and play their part in creating a more just, fair and equal society.
Children can be courageous advocates by speaking up for themselves and others, standing up against injustice, and showing kindness to those who may feel left out or misunderstood. We teach them to express their thoughts and feelings confidently, ask questions, and challenge unfairness in a respectful way. By developing empathy, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility, children can take small but powerful actions that contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Through these acts of courage, they become empowered to make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of others.
