Learning for Life
A very warm welcome to families who will be joining us at Marchwood C of E Infant School! We are delighted you have chosen us and look forward to welcoming your child as they start.
We hope the following information will be useful in supporting a smooth transition and would invite you to contact us if you have any further questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
If your child is currently on roll with us but moving into a new year group, please visit our year group pages under the 'Children' tab on the menu for more information.
We hold transition visits for our new September entrants during the summer term before they begin school. Further details of transition visits are shared once a school place has been offered and accepted for your child. You can also find our School Tour and 'Day in the Life of a Year R Child' videos below. There is also a social story to support transition below.
Children have the opportunity to attend school full time at the start of September but the first week is spent settling children in. This is particularly important for us as we can have 60 children starting in an open plan unit together. This is very different to a nursery or pre school setting where staff/pupil ratios are also different.
A phased start allows us to settle the children and support them with routines in smaller groups. It also enables them to develop relationships with key staff and other children before they all attend together. In addition to this, starting school can be tiring for children, regardless of their nursery or pre-school provision and many children benefit from a period of part-time attendance rather than attending on a full-time basis straight away. Beyond this settling period, we offer two alternative entry patterns for any parents who feel their child may not be ready to attend full time in the second week.
To help the children become familiar with the staff in their class, in the summer term we video a story read by staff that can be shared with your child as many times as you like. From the beginning of July these will be available on the Year R page under the Children tab. Please follow the link to the Year R page below to find them.
