Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC)

At Marchwood Church of England Infant School, we are committed to enabling every child to flourish and fulfil their God-given potential. Guided by our Christian values of Love, Courage and Hope, we nurture the whole child and provide rich opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. SMSC is embedded throughout every aspect of school life and is evident in our curriculum, collective worship, relationships and daily interactions.

Through our vision and values, we encourage children to become confident learners, compassionate citizens and thoughtful individuals who understand their place in the school community and the wider world.

Spiritual Development

Spiritual development is about helping children develop a sense of wonder, curiosity and reflection. It supports them in understanding themselves as unique individuals, recognising their strengths and talents, and exploring big questions about life, faith and purpose.

At Marchwood CE Infant School, children are given opportunities to:

Moral Development

Social Development

Cultural Development

Cultural development enables children to appreciate the rich diversity of the world around them while valuing their own heritage and identity. It helps them develop respect, curiosity and understanding for people, traditions and beliefs that may be different from their own.

SMSC at Marchwood CE Infant School

Opportunities for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development are woven throughout our curriculum, Collective Worship, Religious Education, Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), enrichment activities and wider school experiences. Through our vision and Christian values of Love, Courage and Hope, we equip children with the confidence, compassion and character needed to flourish as respectful, responsible and caring members of society, both now and in the future.
